A surprise move by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints looks to drop the Boy Scouts of America for boys ages 14 and up.
The announcement was made today via Mormonnewsroom.org. Beginning Jan 1 2018 the church will no longer participate in BSA Varsity and Venturing programs but instead young men 14 and older will focus on spiritual, social, physical and intellectual goals outlined by the church. The move is not global, and only affects The youth in Canada and the United States. LDS boys ages 8 to 13 will still be actively involved in the scouting program.
