BEWARE: America’s WORST Chocolate Brand Is Sold ALL OVER Utah!
Halloween is right around the corner which means CHOCOLATE! I'm a big fan of chocolate, but recently 247WallSt.com compiled a list of the WORST chocolate brands. The full list had 8 chocolates, but the Top 3 is what we're going to focus on now! These brands can be found throughout Utah, whether you're in Salt Lake City, St. George or Moab. You may want to think twice before adding these three brands to your shopping list.
THE TOP 3 CHOCOLATE BRANDS TO AVOID IN UTAH:
#3 Hershey’s
Ranked as the third worst chocolate brand on the list, Hershey’s makes the cut due to its controversial production methods. The company uses a secret process that involves lipolysis, which creates butyric acid in the chocolate, giving it a tangy flavor that overpowers the cocoa. Additionally, Hershey’s faced a lawsuit in 2022 for allegedly failing to inform consumers about high levels of lead and cadmium in their products. These issues make Hershey’s a brand to avoid.
#2 Nestlé
Nestlé comes in second, primarily due to allegations involving unethical labor practices. The company has faced numerous lawsuits and widespread criticism for its use of slavery, child labor, and trafficking in its chocolate supply chain. Despite promising to eliminate child labor, reports claim Nestlé has failed to do so, landing the brand high on the list of those to avoid.
#1 Mars
At the top of the list is Mars, which has been under scrutiny for years due to its sourcing of cocoa from West African farms that reportedly use unpaid or underpaid child labor. In 2023, Mars also faced backlash for continuing business operations and paying taxes in Russia amid the Ukraine conflict, making it a brand that 24/7 Wall St. suggests avoiding at all costs.
