Incredible Story of Lyrics in the Night

A recent podcast on YouTube features a man named Rob Ferguson who tells of an experience he had while working on family history. He says it happened several years ago, but he has been reluctant to share it.

He tells how he had become frustrated trying to find ancestors and was ready to stop looking altogether. That night he couldn’t sleep as he had words coming to his mind. He began typing the words into his computer, and as he did, he noticed that the lines often rhymed.

Soon he discovered he could hear what was being said more clearly and that there were notes accompanying the words. He said he then realized it was a song he was writing down.

How the Words Became Music

The next day Ferguson found he could remember the words and the music. He said he is not at all musically talented, but he was able to tap the notes out on the piano in their home that his wife plays.

Worried about how he would be perceived and if he should share his experience, Ferguson only gave the song to his siblings and a few others and asked them to keep it to themselves.

Since that time, the story has slowly grown organically as others have shared what happened. As you can imagine, a fascination has grown about the song. It was put to music using the chords Ferguson wrote down and performed by his sister.
