Everyone wants a lighter purse or wallet and there are some items you should never keep in them for financial security.

It's easy for people to justify putting important documents like a social security card in their wallet because it's easy to locate. Well, that means it's easy to locate for anyone with malicious intentions too.

Better to be safe than sorry, especially with something like a wallet or purse which can easily be lost if the owner isn’t careful.

Here is a list of items you should never keep in your wallet/purse:

Social Security Card

As I said, social security cards are bad to keep on your person. This includes writing your social security number on a small sticky note to remember and then shoving it in your wallet. Discover said that those nine numbers make it easier for fraud to happen in your name.

Checks

Maybe I am just too young but who carries checks around with them anymore? Well, if you were then stop that. Important information like your name, address, bank number and routing number are all on your checks.

Credit Cards

Now, this is not to say that you should carry no credit cards but if you have said, more than two you should leave the others at home. Plus, if you limit the credit cards you have on hand, you’ll be less tempted to use them.

Cheat Sheets

I know that it is tempting to add it to your wallet/purse so that you can easily access your passwords on the go. However, this is a recipe for disaster because if your wallet is stolen then the thief has full access to EVERYTHING.

Cash

Maybe this is also an age thing, however I don’t carry cash EVER. If you have excess, do not keep it in your wallet! If you lose it, chances are no one is going to be a good Samaritan and track you down.
