Man arrested for trying to meet minor for sex

A Nevada man arrested in Utah during an undercover sting is sentenced in federal court for traveling to meet a minor for sex.  Washington County authorities say 37-year-old James Allen Wynhoff pleaded guilty in January, and got 48 months in federal prison.  The judge said Wynhoff would be on probation for 20 years after his release.  He also ordered Wynhoff to undergo a federal nine-month drug treatment program, and to get sex offender treatment.

Senator Romney may never endorse Trump

Senator Mitt Romney says he may never endorse President Trump's re-election.  Romney made the comment Friday at the E-2 Summit on policy and politics at Stein Erikson Lodge in Deer Valley.  Romney told an audience of 250 business leaders he thought Trump would be the Republican nominee, but that his winning the election wasn't a sure thing.  He also said Joe Biden was a better Democratic challenger than Bernie Sanders.

Cold weather discourages many from world record

Cold weather seems to have discouraged many from taking part in an attempt to set a new Guinness world record at the Great Salt Lake.  James Wells of the Utah Department of Natural Resources announced a change of course for the record attempt after only 300 people showed up at Great Saltair Saturday. The record of more than 19-hundred people floating in line in a body of water at the same time was set in Argentina in 2017.  A spokesperson for the Utah Department of Natural Resources said that they may try the world record attempt again next year.

Senior Citizens in Utah some of the healthiest

Utah has some of the healthiest senior citizens in the United States.  That's the finding of the latest report from America's Health Rankings, which puts Utah second overall for senior health.  The state has the fewest number of people over 65-years-old who smoke and drink, and the highest number of seniors who volunteer and stay involved in their communities.  Utah was ranked first overall in last year's report.

No a big crowd to hear Cliven Bundy in Nephi

There wasn’t a big crowd for Cliven Bundy to rally to his cause Saturday in Nephi, where he lamented what he described as a softening states’ rights movement in the American West. “What’s wrong is, we forgot the Constitution again,” he told just more than a dozen members of the conservative Independent American Party, which held its annual convention at Juab High School. Bundy said even the most strident critics of federal land management have become complicit in what he called government overreach.

Utah man charged after posting video's of himself driving recklessly

A Utah man is facing charges after he posted videos of his own reckless driving on YouTube.  The Utah Highway Patrol says they received a complaint about a man driving recklessly on Interstate 15 in Davis County.  That person told them that a video of the incident had been uploaded to YouTube.  The UHP used the videos posted by Matthew Mitchell to arrest him Friday.  He's been charged with multiple counts of reckless driving, speeding and failure to signal.

Firefighter hit by car has minor injuries

The Unified Fire Authority says a firefighter who was hit by a car in Millcreek Canyon has only minor injuries and is already out of the hospital.  UFA spokesman Keith Garner said the unnamed 30-year-old was responding to a call near 7900 East Millcreek Canyon Road yesterday afternoon when he was hit by the car.  Garner says the firefighter-paramedic was walking back to his vehicle when he was hit.  Unified police are investigating and have not decided whether the driver will face any charges.
