Hiker gets stuck on Mount Timpanogos

The Utah County Sheriff's Office says a 20-year-old hiker did the right thing by calling for help when he became stuck on a trail on Mount Timpanogos.  Cole Bernal called 911 Sunday morning when he realized he was stranded in an ice field.  The hiker from Austin, Texas realized he couldn't move safely and risked the possibility of sliding off the mountain.  Utah County Search and Rescue was able to locate Bernal and bring him down safely within a few hours.

Hurricane PD arrest man several times in same day

Hurricane City police officers arrest a 26-year-old man several times in the same day, for stealing items from cars in Washington County.  It happened on Friday, when Tyjobe Sierra McCrone broke into six cars and stole CDs, a pocket knife, sunglasses and a firearm. McCrone pointed the gun at its owner when the man confronted him.  McCrone fled officers and was arrested after a foot chase.

Laverkin man arrested for stabbing man and dog

A Laverkin man allegedly stabbed a neighbor and the neighbor's dog after a scuffle that started when the dog sniffed the man, police said. 27 year old Christian Logan McKusick,was arrested Saturday for investigation of aggravated cruelty to an animal, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and aggravated assault, according to court documents. Police responded to a stabbing report and found a man who was bleeding from the head and neck, a police affidavit filed in 5th District Court states. The dog's neck was also "severely bleeding," police said. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment and the dog to a veterinarian's office. They both survived.

Mesquite PD looking for missing man

The Mesquite Police Department say they are assisting a local family to find a man who they haven’t seen in a couple of days. Police said Sean Sweeney has not been seen since Wednesday June 12. Sweeney was last seen wearing a yellow shirt and grey shorts, according to police. Anyone who has seen Sweeny or know of his whereabouts is advised to call Mesquite Police Department at 702-346-6911.

SLC one of the top cities for African American home ownership

Salt Lake City is one of the top cities in the U.S. for African American home ownership.  Personal finance company LendingTree ranked the 50 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S. using data from the Census Bureau.  While less than two-percent of Salt Lake City's population identifies as African American, 59-percent own homes.  That placed Salt Lake City third overall in the ranking behind the California cities of San Jose and Los Angeles.

Man missing in East Canyon Reservoir 

The search for a missing 25-year-old swimmer is expected to continue today in Morgan County.  Lt. Eric Stucki of Utah Parks and Recreation says those are the questions searchers will seek to answer as they continue diving at the East Canyon Reservoir today.  A North Salt Lake man reportedly began struggling yesterday after jumping into the reservoir without a life jacket.  Witnesses said the man tried to get back into a boat but then slipped under the water and did not resurface.  Investigators say cold water was likely a factor in the swimmer's struggle to get back in the boat.

Update in Manzanares murder case

Federal prosecutors are asking that deadlines be cancelled in the case of a Saint George man accused of killing his wife on a cruise ship.   Kenneth Manzanares was charged with murder after his wife Kristy was found dead of a head wound in July of 2017, while the pair were on the ship near Alaska.  The prosecutors' motion Friday included a statement that the parties were working toward a resolution.  In February, Manzanares' attorneys said they were also seeking a plea deal.

St. George man arrested for stealing customer-loyalty points

A Saint George man is charged with stealing customer-loyalty points and using them at convenience stores.  Officials said 40-year-old John Russell Potter, a former convenience store manager, allegedly used a company software program to access customers' loyalty points.   He transferred the points to his own cards, and used about 15-hundred dollars' worth of points at various stores.  Potter had previously been arrested in March for trying to meet with a minor for sex.

GOP Presidential candidate says he will win Utah's primary

The only declared Republican candidate challenging President Donald Trump for the GOP nomination is predicting he will win Utah's primary.  Former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld appeared on CNN Saturday and said his campaign was finding a lack of support for Trump in several states.  He plans to campaign hard in those states, including Utah, where Trump finished third in the 2016 Republican presidential primary.  Utah will hold its 2020 Republican and Democratic primaries on March 3rd.
