Boaters bypassing mandatory inspection stations

DWR conservation officers are concerned about the number of boaters who are bypassing mandatory inspection stations across the state. Those stations are in place to prevent invasive quagga mussels from spreading to Utah waterways and recreation areas. In the coming weeks, additional DWR law enforcement officers will be onsite at the stations.

Body of man recovered in the Green River

The body of a California man who died in a rafting accident is recovered.  Park Ranger Sonya Pepelka said that Dinosaur National Monument employees found out Saturday that the man was injured and unconscious.  His raft had flipped over in the Green River at Triplet Falls, and he was underwater for ten minutes.

Brush fire along the Virgin River

Crews from multiple agencies battled a brush fire along the banks of the Virgin River in St. George. According to Washington County Fire Warden Adam Heyder the fire started just before noon Sunday and has consumed approximately one-quarter acre of brush along the river bed. The location of the blaze, which has been officially named the East River Fire.

Truck and trailer roll onto Utah Highway Patrol car

A driver was airlifted to a hospital after hitting a trooper's vehicle in Salt Lake County.  Utah Highway Patrol officials said it happened around seven-thirty Sunday evening.  The trooper was investigating a crash on I-80 near the Lamb's Canyon exit when the driver of a truck carrying a trailer rolled and crashed onto the top of his official vehicle.

Power outage in Parowan, Paragonah and Brian Head

Thousands of people were without power Saturday and Sunday following a loss of transmission at a substation, according to Rocky Mountain Power. At its height, the power outage impacted 2,100 Rocky Mountain Power customers. By Sunday morning, the number of those impacted by the power outage had fallen to about 1,800.

Hiker in Little Cottonwood Canyon rescued

A hiker who became lost in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Independence Day is sunburned but okay following her rescue.  Winnie Rohde was emotional Friday after being told her daughter-in-law Dawn was okay. Dawn Rohde was rescued by helicopter after spending Thursday night by the side of a river she could not cross.  Rohde said that she was exploring the Maybird Trail when she became disoriented and lost.

Family and friends of Mayor Brent Taylor keeping memory alive

Family and friends of former North Ogden Mayor Brent Taylor are keeping his memory alive.  A 40th birthday party for Taylor was held Saturday at North Ogden Park.  Taylor's wife Jennie said it was important to her to keep her husband's legacy alive.  The party was also a fundraiser for the Brent Taylor Leadership Legacy Foundation.

Skull Flat fire east of Beaver 50% contained

The Central Utah Fire Interagency says the Skull Flat Fire east of Beaver is fifty-percent contained.   On Saturday, crews secured a line about a mile long on the south end of the fire, and were working on getting another mile contained by Sunday evening.

Boy dies near Lake Havasu

Rescue crews located the body of a 16-year-old boy Saturday after he disappeared near Lake Havasu, according to Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating Safety. The Sheriff’s Office said the 16-year-old did not resurface after jumping off a cliff into the Colorado River, north of Lake Havasu Friday. The name of the boy has not been released.

81 applications submitted to grow medical cannabis

The state Department of Agriculture and Food says 81 people have submitted applications to become the first to grow medical cannabis in the state of Utah.  The department will now review those applications to pick the ten people who will get a license to grow cannabis for the state's medical marijuana program.

Mia Love may run against Ben McAdams

Former Republican Congresswoman Mia Love says she will run against Democratic Congressman Ben McAdams if her party needs her to.  Love tells the said that there are only three Republicans she feels are strong enough to beat McAdams next year and so far, none of them are running.
