Utah Republicans say they're ready to give Utahns a tax break.

State Senator Lincoln Fillmore was among the GOP leaders who gave a preview of their upcoming tax reform bill yesterday.

The proposal would lower income taxes to four-point-seven-five-percent and lower the overall sales tax to three-point-one-percent.

The bill would also broaden the overall tax base by taxing more services while expanding personal income tax exemptions and other tax credits.

GOP leaders expect to introduce the tax reform plan later this week.

Republican Representative Tim Quinn says tax reform is needed because Utah's tax base has shifted from a goods-based economy to a service-based one.
