This New Underpass Will Save St. George Residents SO MUCH TIME!
A couple months ago, I wrote a story about the roads and underpasses that we desperately need here in St. George. Roads that would save us incredible amounts of time in our daily lives. Well, one of those roads is ACTUALLY COMING! I don't care what anybody says, I'm taking 100% of the credit for this!
THE ROAD:
It was announced by the City of St. George that two new I-15 underpasses would be coming to town. The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced a grant of $87,618,600 to UDOT toward funding local street crossings at 400 East (Flood Street) and 900 South. I-15 will be raised to accommodate these underpasses.
This area has needed an underpass BADLY. If you're attempting to get from Flood Street to Camping World (Directly on the other side of I-15), that could take upwards of 15-20 minutes. This new project will eliminate that time by 99%. This will really help the flow of traffic and take the pressure off Bluff Street, Riverside Drive, and 700 South.

1. Smith:
Everyone knows a Smith. EVERYONE. There's a total of 28,103 in Utah. That's 1/115 people in the entire state! It's also the most popular last name in the entire United States!
2. Johnson:
If you're a Johnson, there's 26,445 of you here in Utah. 1/122 people in the state. You also have the 2nd most popular name in the United States.
3. Anderson:
The Anderson's are the 8th most popular name in the United States, but 3rd most popular in Utah! 22,925 of you live here in the state, that's 1/141 people!
4. Jensen:
The Jensen last name is actually pretty unique to Utah! It's the 4th most popular name in Utah, but only the 229th most popular in the nation! 17,442 Jensens live in Utah!
5. Christensen:
Christensen is very similar to Jensen. It's the 5th most popular in Utah, but the 372nd most popular last name in the USA. There's 15,792 Christensens here!
6. Jones:
I would've thought Jones was the 2nd most popular in Utah, and in the nation, but I was wrong! it's 6th in Utah, and 5th across the country! 15,671 Joneses are in Utah now!
7. Brown:
I truly don't know THAT MANY Browns, but it comes in at #7 in the state, and #4 in the United States. However, only 0.87% of ALL Browns live in Utah though. Not even 1% live here!
8. Hansen:
My nieces and nephews are Hansens, and it surprises me it's SO HIGH on the list for Utah! It comes in at #8 in Utah an #174 across the US. 8% of ALL HANSENS live in Utah!
9. Peterson:
My Grandma was a Peterson, so I guess this one KIND OF works for me, but it's #9 in Utah, and #59 in the states. There's a total of 14,768 Petersons here now! That's one Peterson per every 218 people!
10. Davis:
Rounding out our top ten is Davis. No surprise here. We even have a Davis County in Utah. Davis is more popular across the country, however, coming in at the SIXTH most popular name in the United States!
LOCK EM UP! This Stuff Should Be Illegal In St. George!
Here is my list of things that are TOTALLY LEGAL to do... But DRIVE ME CRAZY! If I had it my way, you'd be locked up for doing THESE THINGS in St. George, Utah.
Creating A "Utah Road Block" on Bluff Street:
A Utah Road Block is when you're driving, and there's at least 2 lanes, but everyone is driving THE SAME SPEED and nobody can pass. It's usually EXACTLY at the speed limit or below the speed limit. I'm yelling in my car and punching air every time this happens.
Going to Culver's restaurant, and having to "Pull ahead and we'll bring the food to you":
What?! No! That's not how Fast Food works! Every time I'm at Culver's I have to pull up... EVEN IF NOBODY IS BEHIND ME!
Taking a full naked shower at The St. George City Pool:
It never fails. I'm at the City Pool, and some EXTREMELY CONFIDENT old guy is taking a full naked shower out in the open. LOCK HIM UP! Keep your swimsuit on, man!
Parking your lifted truck in two spots outside of Bloomington Walmart:
Look... I don't care if you park WAY IN THE BACK in two spots, but this happens in the PRIME spots up front! We get it. Your truck is big and your... foot is small. Just park in the back. That drives me bananas.
Merging onto I-15 at 45 miles per hour:
I will switch lanes. I will FLY past you. You're going to cause an accident.
Not being BALLSY ENOUGH in the roundabout:
Have you ever been behind someone trying to get IN to the roundabout and they REFUSE to go when they have the opportunity?! OHHH IT MAKES ME CRAZY! We got places to go, people to see! We'll be here ALL DAY if you don't make something happen, lady!
Comedians That Would Absolutely SELL OUT in Southern Utah
Last summer, Comedian and Podcaster, Theo Von, came to Southern Utah! Theo performed his set in Springdale, Utah at OC Tanner Amphitheater. Theo's tickets sold out QUICK, as his fans were thrilled to have him in Southern Utah. People traveled from Northern Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho and even Wyoming!
That, alone, should prove to local venues and investors that Southern Utah is willing to spend their money on Comedians coming to the area!
Here are a list of the TOP Comedians that should come to Southern Utah!
Shane Gillis:
Shane just hosted SNL a couple weekends ago, and it was MAYBE the best episode SNL has had in a decade. Shane is a very politically incorrect comedian, but people love him. He was actually hired to be a cast member on SNL before getting fired for things he said on a podcast, before ever getting a chance to be on the show. Shane might be the biggest comedian in the world right now, and we'd love to have him here!
Bert Kreischer:
THE MACHINE! If you've never seen Bert before, you gotta check him out! He has a movie out about his crazy story in Russia with the Russian Mob. It's called "The Machine". He's also the man who inspired the movie "National Lampoons Van Wilder". Bert also has a huge podcast called "The Bertcast", another one called "2 Bears 1 Cave", and even has a Netflix show called "The Cabin."
Dane Cook:
My favorite comedian of ALL TIME! Dane Cook got BIG on Myspace, and became really the first celebrity to use social media to build his brand. You've probably seen a few of his movies like "Employee of the Month" or "Good Luck Chuck". I would go NUTS if Dane Cook came to town!
Nate Bargatze:
Nate is really pretty new to the scene. I've only heard of him the last year. But the guy is SO FUNNY and really relatable. He's on Netflix with his specials, and he seems fairly family-friendly.
John Mulaney:
John Mulaney was a big-time writer on Saturday Night Live. He just released his newest comedy special on Netflix which talks a lot about his last struggle with drugs and alcohol, but he's now been clean for a while! John Mulaney would be a home run to get booked in Southern Utah.
Andrew Santino:
Andrew Santino is someone who flies WAY under the radar, but he's SO FUNNY! He's got his podcast, "The Whiskey Ginger Podcast", and a second podcast with fellow comedian Bobby Lee, "Bad Friends".
Jim Gaffigan:
Jim Gaffigan may be WAY out of our league to ever book in Southern Utah, but I'd love it. He plays Vegas a lot, and Salt Lake City. Can't we get him at Tuacahn or Utah Tech? His comedy specials are on Netflix, and he also had a show on Comedy Central "The Jim Gaffigan Show."
Gabriel Iglesias:
FLUFFY! He's one of the biggest Mexican-American comedians out there, and I LOVE HIS STUFF! He's been in movies like "Magic Mike", "Space Jam: A New Legacy", "Coco", "Ferdinand" and many more.
Daniel Tosh:
You've probably seen his show TOSH.0 on Comedy Central, where it aired for 12 seasons. Daniel also has a huge following for his stand-up comedy. I've seen that he performs in Vegas a lot, and think MAYBE we can get him in St. George if we play our cards right!
Matt Rife:
Last, but DEFINITELY not least... Matt Rife. He's all over Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok. GIRLS LOVE HIM! I've seen petitions all over social media of people wanting him in their city!
