Piute County Teen Sentenced for Murder of Girl Friend

On Monday (8-28-23), Francisco Daniel Aguilar was sentenced to 25 years to life to be served at the Utah State Prison for the aggravated murder of 16-year-old Jacqueline "Jacky" Nunez-Millan on the evening of January 8, 2023, as the two argued on a remote dirt road in Piute County.

Aguilar was also convicted of attempted aggravated murder for shooting at a friend of Nunez-Millan who had driven to the scene in an attempt to assist Nunez-Millan.

On June 12, Aguilar pleaded guilty to both charges.  The charges did not constitute capital offenses because Aguilar was 17 years old at the time of the crimes.

The incident rocked the usually quiet, peaceful, mostly agricultural communities. Piute County had a population of 1,438 in the 2020 census, making it the second-least populated county in Utah.

At the time of her death, "Jacky" Nunez-Millan was a sophomore at Piute High School, a small, rural high school with less than 200 total students, grades 7 through 12.

In a press release Monday, Piute County Sheriff Marty Gleave "praised members of his office, the Sevier County Sheriff's Office, [and] all... personnel who responded immediately upon being asked to help."

Piute County prosecutor Scott Burns stated, "the support provided to the victims of this terrible crime has been outstanding," and commended members of the Piute and Sevier County Sheriff's offices for their investigative work.
