St. George is getting very familiar with ramen restaurants and just added its third ramen place.

The newest addition to the local food scene is already getting good reviews so I had to go try it out over the weekend. For those familiar with the local ramen places, you know that Soul Ramen & Noodle Bar moved earlier this year to the heart of St. George. Well, the new ramen place is residing where it used to be which is great news for Ivins and Santa Clara residents.

Genki Ramen really made the space its own and added booths and new decor that makes it feel very cool. It is perfect for those who want a chill outing with food but aren’t looking to get dressed up and fancy.

The floor plan seems a lot more open despite the addition of the booths and patterned umbrellas line the ceiling giving the place a unique ambiance.

I went on Sunday a little after 1 p.m. and the place had a few customers scattered across its seating area. Since I probably missed the lunch rush, I was seated in a booth, and it was nice and spacious for a party of one.

The menu has several appetizers, salads, ramen options, other Japanese noodles and of course dessert and drinks. I felt pretty hungry and couldn’t resist ordering the chashu pork buns which were excellent! However, be aware that it's just two (but very filling) buns and that costs $9.

With the soft dough bun and tender pork, it was a real treat for an appetizer. The mix of mayonnaise and hoisin sauce was perfect. If you don’t like fatty meat this is not something I would recommend but you can try the other buns they offer like the fried chicken one.

Next, I ordered my ramen, and the choices were both classic and new. Like Soul and Slurpin’ ramen there was a black garlic option and tonkatsu ramen. I felt like trying something new and ordered the wonton miso ramen. It did not disappoint!

Topped with yummy pork wontons, fish cakes, bamboo shoots, corn, fried garlic and spinach, this ramen was to die for. The broth was creamy and mixed well with the add-ins. I highly recommend this for any wonton lover. The pork wontons are made in-house.

The ramen will run you around $14 depending on your choice and not including add ins. This is a typical price for ramen in St. George so it's neither cheaper nor more expensive.

Genki Ramen is worth the try and I will be going back to work my way through the list. You can visit Genki Ramen at 929 W Sunset Blvd #12, St. George, UT 84770.

Happy Ramen Eating!
