Which trail do you have to visit when the weather is less hot and maybe a little more exciting this time of year?

Grand Canyon

If I can get to the Grand Canyon, especially the north side during the winter, I am always moved. Not everything is open in the winter so be aware of that, but I love the majesty of it when there is snow on the ground. Spring is especially nice too when everything is lush.

This one is easy to get to as it is just up state route 18 in St. George. I love it when there is a possibility for moisture in the dry runoff beds. It is dangerous to be out in the moisture on most of the trails in Southern Utah, but this trail gives you lots of high ground so you can watch from a safe distance if there is something raging.

Fiddlers Canyon Trail

I like this one because you can choose the level of difficulty that you want. The start of the trail is paved and in town and as you progress it gets more rugged. A little tip: someone mentioned that they expected this trail to finish at a great lookout spot and they had wished they knew to enjoy the journey because they didn’t feel like it was a destination hike.

Gooseberry Mesa

Quite the opposite of Fiddlers Canyon trail this one does end with a stunning view from the mesa. Just out of Hurricane, it is great when the heat is at rest for the season. It is rugged, but most moderate hikers can do it. Bring your water and enjoy one of the great reasons we live in this scenery.

This is by no means an extensive list. One of the great things about living where we live is the abundance of spectacular hikes. So pick one, pick a date, and enjoy this weather while we have it.
