Can Utahans Identify Objects From The 1970’s?

I am not a child of the 70's, my birth was several years before the 70's began. However, that decade was the is the one I look back on as a key period in my life. It was in the 70's that I finished high school. Also in that decade I found my way in to broadcast and stated the career I still participate in to this day.

It was also in the 70's that I married and we began the family that is so vital to my well being.

A lot has changed since the 1970's. For example in 1970 the population of Utah was 1,059,273. The population of St. George was 7,097. Cedar City actually had a slightly bigger population at 8,946.

While many things have changed, there are still some things that came along in the 70's that are still relevant. For example, the 1970s saw the birth of the microprocessor, a pivotal invention that revolutionized computing. Intel introduced the first commercially available microprocessor, the Intel 4004, in 1971, paving the way for the development of personal computers. Of course, we now carry computers in our pockets.

Ray Tomlinson sent the first email in 1971, laying the foundation for modern email communication.

Introduced in 1979, the Sony Walkman revolutionized the way people listened to music by allowing them to carry their favorite tunes with them on the go. Of course you don't see a walkman around much these days.

The 1970s saw the birth of video gaming as we know it today, with the release of iconic arcade games like Pong and the development of early home gaming consoles.

George Lucas's "Star Wars" (1977) became a cultural phenomenon, spawning a vast franchise that includes films, TV shows, books, and merchandise. It revolutionized the sci-fi genre and left an indelible mark on popular culture.

Of course, the 70's had its share of misses, too.

The 1970s witnessed the rise of disco music, characterized by its danceable beats and glamorous aesthetic. Artists like Donna Summer and the Bee Gees dominated the charts with hits like "Stayin' Alive" and "I Will Survive."
