A 45-year-old Salt Lake City man is dead following an avalanche in Summit County.

Sheriff's Office Lt. Andrew Wright said the man left Canyons Village resort early yesterday to snowboard in an area called Dutch Draw.

The man was buried between 25 and 45 minutes and efforts to revive him were not successful.

It's the first death due to avalanche in Utah this season.

Craig Gordon of the Utah Avalanche Center says backcountry skiers and snowboarders have to use extreme caution right now.
