(Salt Lake City, UT) -- The Utah Water Resources Board is approving nearly 200-million dollars in grants to add meters to secondary water connections throughout the state. The Utah Legislature approved a plan earlier this year to help add meters to currently unmonitored connections. The grants approved yesterday are expected to help pay for more than 100-thousand of the meters. That will take care of more than half of the unmetered connections statewide. State officials say using the meters will help the state project future water needs and reduce water consumption and waste.
