Utah's Better Business Bureau says hundreds of Utahns have lost money to scammers running pet-related frauds during the coronavirus emergency.

The bureau says over 500 Utahns have reported some type of scam involving the purchase of pets in the last two months.

A spokesperson said the scammers often ask for shipping and insurance fees on top of the purchase price of the nonexistent animals.

The bureau advises pet lovers never to buy any animal without seeing it in-person, and to report any suspected scams to the BBB to be investigated.
