Cedar City’s 2020 Walk to End Alzheimer’s is marching forward on September 19 with a new format, making it safe for everyone who wants to help end this terrible disease.  “Alzheimer's disease hasn't stopped, so neither will we. The safety and well-being of our constituents and volunteers is paramount to our work, and so is our commitment to the individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s,” said Mike Miller, Regional Manager for the Alzheimer’s Association.

The new Walk format allows maximum participation and is everywhere — on every sidewalk, track and trail in Cedar City, Iron County, and beyond, with people walking in small groups of friends, family, and co-workers.  Cedar City’s Walk is one of eight taking place in Utah, and 600 across the country.

A new mobile app will bring everyone together for the 10 am opening ceremony, then share special Walk music, mission messages, and Alzheimer’s program information.  Participants will also be able to share photos and videos about their Walk experience on the platform.  We will also have a drive-by Promise Garden display at SUU.

“When people register for the Walk they will be mailed a colorful set of promotional flags for their yard and to carry on Walk day, and have a chance to earn a t-shirt,” said Miller.  “And while there is no fee to register for the Walk, all participants are encouraged to raise funds that will advance the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association by enabling critical care and support services and advancing research toward methods of prevention, treatment and, ultimately, a cure,” he continued.

A nationwide pep rally webinar is scheduled on August 10 at 11:00 a.m. and all registered participants will receive an invitation to this event. “In 2019 our first walk in Cedar City had 35 teams engaged and we expect to top that number this year,” said Miller. “We currently have 21 teams signed up to walk and there is room for many more.”
