Bicycle rider seriously hurt after striking a vehicle on SR 56

Cedar City police responded Monday after a bicycle rider struck a vehicle on State Route 56 west of Cedar.

According to Sgt. Clint Pollock, a 2000 Chevrolet 1500 pickup, and a 74-year-old bicyclist, were traveling westbound when the bicyclist hit the side of the vehicle, striking his head on the vehicle’s mirror.

The elderly man appears to have not looked over his shoulder prior to entering the vehicle’s lane.

When first responders arrived on scene, the bicyclist was unconscious.

He was transported to Cedar City Hospital and then to DRMC by medical helicopter.
