A Utah child psychologist says parents need to talk to their children about the coronavirus outbreak to help ease their fears.

Dr. Doug Goldsmith says he's heard some very troubling things from his patients and urges parents to ask some very important questions.

Goldsmith says parents need to give their children the facts about the virus and discuss their concerns in an open manner.

He adds that making a promise to always be honest about what's happening to the family and the community can help comfort a child in an uncertain time.

Finally, Goldsmith says all children should be reassured and given hope that things will get better over time.

Goldsmith says a simple promise of honesty can be reassuring to a child during an uncertain time.
