Salt Lake City is preparing for the eventual melting of this year's higher than average snowpack.

Officials with the Public Utilities Department say crews are cleaning out storm drains in hopes of giving melting snow a place to go later this spring.

The city is also working with Salt Lake County to ensure grates in different streams are free-flowing and free of debris.

City officials hope temperatures will rise gradually, letting the snowpack melt gradually over the course of the spring and early summer.
