Controversy is growing over a proposed new highway linking Washington and St. George.

The proposed four-lane highway would pass through the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, which is also a habitat for a protected tortoise.

That's not sitting too well with conservationists.

Officials argue the new highway is needed to handle the growing traffic concerns.

The public is being asked to weigh in on the project through the Bureau of Land Management through January 6th.
