Couple from Utah shot and killed in Mexico

Media outlets in Mexico City say a couple from Utah has been shot and killed.

Reforma reports Paul Nielsen and his wife, Janeth Vazquez, were traveling with their 12-year-old son last week from the port of Acapulco to a nearby resort town.

Early Thursday morning, a group of armed men ambushed the couple and shot them, then stole their car.

The son was also shot but he survived.

The roadblock was put up by a local drug cartel to extort travelers.
