Flash Flood Warning For Southern Utah

(Salt Lake City, UT)  --  Much of Southern Utah is bracing for potential floods today as thunderstorms hit the area this afternoon.  The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Capitol Reef National Park, Grand Staircase Escalante, Green River, Bluff, Blanding, Monticello, and Moab starting at noon until midnight.  Monsoon storms could produce as much as an inch of rain in a short duration.

(Salt Lake City, UT)  --  UHP is searching for a driver involved in a hit-and-run after a man was found dead on I-15.  Troopers say the victim was found on the southbound side of the highway near Ninth North around 1 a.m.  Paramedics who checked the victim's injuries determined that he died after he had been struck by a vehicle.  UHP says it is possible the driver who hit the man may not have noticed they hit someone, especially if they were driving a semi-truck. 

>>Man Caught Carrying Explosives Near Library

(West Valley City, UT)  --  A man faces charges in West Valley City after police say he was seen carrying several explosives and weapons in the parking lot of a library.  Officers were called to the areas near 40th South and 46th West around 8 p.m. last night after someone spotted 29-year-old Kyle Amos Winn walking toward the Hunter Library.  Arrest records show that Winn had two large machetes and a knife in his waistband.  When police stopped him, they found several improvised explosive devices in glass and metal containers containing black powder, white phosphorus and ball bearings.  Police managed to resolve the situation peacefully.

Crews Putting Out Two Small Wildfires In Box Elder County

(Box Elder County, UT)  --  Crews are working to put out two small wildfires burning in Box Elder County.  Utah Fire Info reports that lightning sparked both fires in the Devil's Playground Area yesterday afternoon.  No major damage has been reported so far.  Local and federal firefighters believe both blazes should be contained sometime this afternoon. 

Biologists Consider Flying Fresh Water To Animal Herd At Antelope Island

(Davis County, UT)  --  The Division of Wildlife Resources may take drastic steps to ensure an animal herd at Antelope Island survives the ongoing drought.  DWR is considering a plan to fly fresh water to the bighorn sheep on the island by helicopter.  Biologists say the sheep stay in steep terrain where their freshwater resources have mostly dried up.
