Governor Gary Herbert wants to tackle tough issues like air quality and public transportation during his final year in office.

The governor told Utah lawmakers during his State of the State speech last night that Utah must reimagine roads to accommodate many forms of transit, both public and private.

It was Herbert's final State of the State speech, as he is not running for re-election after spending the last decade as governor.

In addition to encouraging lawmakers to approve up to 100-million-dollars in spending on air quality, the governor said the legislature must also address issues like affordable housing to help meet the needs of Utah's growing population.

Governor Herbert said the state still needs to institute some type of tax reform following his repeal of a bill approved by lawmakers but challenged by voters.
