A Provo businessman has launched a bid to become the next governor of Utah.

Speaking from the steps of the State Capitol today, Jeff Burningham entered the Republican field, telling a crowd that he would work to eliminate government regulations on the private sector.

He also promised to advocate for Utah's rural communities and help modernize public education.

Burningham helped create the real-estate firm Peak Capital Partners.

Both he and Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox are the only two Republican candidates to declare their candidacy so far.
