Arizona is a 10. (Why That’s Actually Bad News)
There was once a time when traveling was a special occasion. Everyone dressed up, used their best manners, and behaved like royalty. Airlines, trains, and other transportation agencies treated their customers like royalty, too.
Corporate profits have continued to shrink travel amenities. Legroom is getting tighter; you have to pay for everything from checked baggage to in-flight refreshments to entertainment. It's no wonder travel has become drudgery.
Americans aren't bringing their A-game when they travel anymore, and everyone is noticing. Arizona travelers aren't the worst on the list, but we ranked in the top ten for the worst travel habits—or, better stated, we're in the bottom ten.

How is Arizona Ranked for Bad Travel Habits
A website called Solitaire Bliss polled its users on which states have the "naughtiest travelers", not the bad habits we've witnessed in others but what we admit to doing as travelers.
Here are some of the reported "bad habits":
- Leaving trash in a seat pocket
- Reclining a seat without asking the person behind you
- Using both armrests
- Pushing on the seat in front of you
- Asking to cut in the security line
- Bringing strong, smelly food on a plane
- Asking to switch seats on a plane
These States Have the "Worst Travelers
According to the survey, a whopping 81% of respondents said they feel that airline etiquette has declined in recent years.
Danger! Reasons You Should Never Travel from Arizona to Mexico
They identified Spirit and American Airlines as the carriers with the most "bad passenger behavior".
The Worst Travelers in America: Where Arizona is Ranked
The good news is, Arizona wasn't ranked as the state with the worst travelers. That dishonor went to Mississippi.
Here is the rest of the bottom ten worst states:
- Mississippi: 99.5
- California: 98.21
- Arkansas: 93.75
- New York: 90.63
- Texas: 88.84
- Washington: 81.59
- Florida: 81.25
- North Carolina: 81.13
- Connecticut: 80.33
- Arizona: 79.52
Arizona's worst habit? Bringing smelly food on a plane.
On the upside, if you're traveling soon and you wind up seated next to someone from Idaho, you're in luck. They ranked number one with the fewest bad habits when they travel.
