VOTE NOW! The 20 Names For Utah’s NHL Team Are Unveiled!

The 20 names have finally been revealed for the future Utah NHL team! As team owner, Ryan Smith stated: The public will vote for the name in a bracket-style poll. But released Wednesday night, the top 20 names are here! One thing to remember: The team will be "Utah", not "Salt Lake City".

Here are the 20 potential names for the Utah NHL team:

UTAH MOUNTAINEERS:

Mountaineers. I'm a little surprised they didn't go with the Utah-Special Double Z's. Utah has been known for using the Double Z's for so many things, and they could've easily been the Mountaineerzz on this one. Not terrible. Not great. 5/10.

UTAH POWDER:

Powder. It makes sense for being in Northern Utah during the winter months. I mean, we do have the 'Greatest Snow On Earth'. However, Powder feels more like the actual mascot's name, instead of a full team name, ya know? 5/10.

UTAH HOCKEY CLUB:

Hockey Club or HC. This is practically no name at all, and I'm surprised that it's even a possibility. I can honestly say this is my LAST choice on the list. 1/10.

UTAH MAMMOTH:

This seems to be the fan favorite for some reason. It's a cool mascot, but "Utah Mammoth" just doesn't sound right. It doesn't roll off the tongue like I wish it would. 7/10.

UTAH BLAST:

Blast. I have no idea where this one even came from. What about Utah is "blast"? We don't have rocket ships. This one makes zero sense. I'm surprised it made the list. 3/10.

UTAH HIVE:

Hive. Now we're talking! I love the "Bee" theme for a team. Hive isn't exactly my favorite, but I think it's on the right track. There's another bee name coming up on the list that I like a whole lot better. But for Hive? Not bad. 7/10.

UTAH SQUALL:

Squall. It's a cool name if you know what "Squall" actually means. A Squall is a quick and sudden wind storm, possibly followed by rain, thunder or lightning. It's a really cool name, but we're going to have to explain it to EVERYBODY! 5/10.

UTAH BLIZZARD:

I have a feeling this is going to make the top 4 if not the top 2. The Blizzard works for Northern Utah, especially for an ice hockey team. It also features the Utah-Special Double Z's, so you know I already love that! 9/10.

UTAH VENOM:

Venom is actually growing on me more and more everyday. We have poisonous snakes, spiders, and scorpions here in Utah, so that actually makes some sense. It's tough, and actually pretty cool. Our actual mascot could be a snake. Even though I hate snakes, this could be a cool brand. 9/10.

UTAH OUTLAWS:

Outlaws. I really like this one for Utah, especially for our history in Utah with Outlaws like Butch Cassidy. This is a really cool brand, very unique, and there's no other outlaws in professional sports. This could actually be great. 9/10.

Yeti. Utah Yeti rolls off the tongue pretty well, but does it feel kind of... Mickey Mouse-ish? It kind of feels too cute to be a hockey name. This one will probably make top 4 for sure. But for me, I think I can do without it. 6/10.

UTAH FREEZE:

Freeze. I like the names that are dealing with weather here in Utah. This isn't my favorite choice for weather-themed names but it's definitely "okay." 6/10.

UTAH SWARM:

Swarm. This is my favorite Bee-themed name on the list for sure. This might be top 2 for me on the entire list. Swarm is just cool. I like the colors a lot, it fits the state, and incredibly unique for pro sports. 9/10.

UTAH GLACIERS:

Glaciers. This name is just okay. It's cool that it's a cool-themed name like the Blizzard, Freeze, or Powder, but probably my least favorite of those. 4/10.

UTAH CANYONS:

Canyons. This graphic is just a little wrong. The name up for vote is CANYONS, not CANYON. But still, I really don't love it. It's like the Rockies baseball team in Colorado, but the Utah Canyons doesn't have that same charm. 3/10.

UTAH FURY:

Fury. Fury is anger and toughness, which fits for the Hockey-brand, but doesn't really fit for Utah. I'd like a name that actually fits the area, and Fury doesn't fit the area. 2/10.

UTAH ICE:

Ice. This is a cool name, but is it too redundant? The Utah Ice, the Ice Hockey Team? Too much. I like the idea of ice cracking, freezing, and having that type of brand, but the redundancy is too much for me. 4/10.

UTAH CARIBOU:

Caribou. This is hands down, the COOLEST actual mascot, but the name just kind of sucks. The Utah Caribou isn't easy to spell or pronounce, and I think people wouldn't know exactly what a Caribou even is. 2/10.

UTAH FROST:

Frost. It's a pretty cool name for a hockey team, especially in a city known for their winters and winter games. Salt Lake City and the mountains get hit with tons of snow, ice, and frost. But is it a great fit? I don't think so. 5/10.

UTAH BLACK DIAMONDS:

Black Diamonds. People online actually love this idea a lot, but not me. Black Diamonds are Black diamond ski runs are designated for advanced skiers who are looking for a challenge beyond the intermediate blue square runs. But will anybody know that without us explaining? Doubt it. Plus, it sounds too much like the Arizona Diamondbacks, the baseball team in Phoenix. 6/10.
