Research into what created the huge scar on the face of the planet Mars has implications for the Grand Canyon here on Earth. Is it possible something other than water carved out the incredible canyon that splits the top of Arizona from Utah?

Scar on Mars has the Same Shape as a Bar Galaxy

Valles Marinaris is the large scar seen across the lower half of mars. This canyon dwarfs the Grand Canyon in size. Researchers have proposed many theories as to how this massive scar was produced. Currently it is assumed water carved it.

There are some problems with the water theory. The biggest is that there doesn’t seem to be any place where the water ran out or water ran in. It looks like a cut used by a saw rather than meandering river. However, it does fit electrical scarring.

Studying The Effects of Electric Discharge

Scientists who study electrical effects have found that these electrical features are scalable. This means how electricity discharge done in a lab can be scaled up to the same effects of lightening over the earth and even in space between celestial bodies.

A closer look at Valles Marinaris shows that it looks a lot like a bar galaxy. What they propose is an electrical discharge from the planet, blew rock into space and created the canyon. The above video discusses this in much more detail.

If this is true for this canyon in Mars, the same could explain the Grand Canyon. It could be possible that a similar event happened back in Earth’s history. Possibly electrical discharge carved the canyon and the Colorado River followed the path.
