8 Year Old That Fell From Chairlift Expected to Make Full Recovery
The parents of an eight-year-old girl who fell from a Park City chairlift say their daughter is expected to make a full recovery. Saylor Reeves apparently suffered a seizure that caused her to fall from the lift at Park City Mountain Resort on Saturday. Saylor's mother Cydney says her daughter's injuries included a compression fracture of her spine. Reeves' parents say the eight-year-old might have been hurt even worse, but that the helmet she was wearing helped protect her head when she fell.
Bill to Allow Lower Cost Prescription Drugs From Canada to Utah Moving Forward
A bill that could bring lower-cost prescription drugs from Canada to Utah is moving forward. A House committee approved HB 267 from Republican Representative Norm Thurston. If passed, the Utah Department of Health would seek approval from the FDA and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service to create an importation program. The legislation will now go to the full House for a vote.
Iron County School Board Forms Transition Team for New Mascot
Iron County School District has announced it has formed a transition team to help assist with the creation of a new brand and mascot for Cedar High School. Earlier this month, the school board decided to retire the mascot at the end of school year, and in January, the high school committee voted 17-7 in favor of changing from the previous, "Home of the Redman" identity, which it had been used since the 1940s. The team is formed by current students, alumni and community members
Snowshoers Rescued From Brian Head Area
Two flight instructors from the SUU Aviation Department along with the Iron County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue responded to the call to assist in rescuing two hikers who were out snowshoeing near Brian Head. Officials say the hikers got lost after sundown. The helicopters were equipped with night vision technology. The hikers were rescued by the SUU helicopter about 9pm.
Strong Beer in Utah Bill Progresses
A bill that would allow Utah retailers to sell stronger beer cleared another hurdle Monday. State Sen. Jerry Stevenson's bill, S.B. 132, passed its second reading vote in the Utah State Senate with a vote of 21-8. The bill would allow local retailers to sell beer with 4.8 percent alcohol by weight instead of the current 3.2 percent.
Bill to Ban Marriage For Those Under 18 Moving Forward
Opponents of child marriage in Utah are elated, after a bill that would ban marriage for those under 18 passed a House committee Monday. Nicholeen Peck, of the Worldwide Organization of Women, spoke against the proposed law, saying a girl who gets married young because she's pregnant could be the doing it for the right reasons. LuAnn Cooper, a survivor of forced child marriage when she was in a polygamous group, supported the bill.

Utah lawmakers appear poised to take away local governments' power to create bans on plastic bags and other single-use containers. A bill that would strip that power from city and county governments was approved by a House committee yesterday on a 6-4 vote.
Growth of Tech Jobs in Utah Strong
The growth of tech jobs in Utah is probably making a lot of other states green with envy. A new report from the Kem G. Gardener Policy Institute shows that tech jobs in Utah grew by three-point-six percent annually from 2007 to 2017. By comparison, tech growth nationwide during the same period was only one-point-six percent annually.
Tax Reform Package Could Add Some Taxes But Reduce Overall Sales Tax Rate
A tax reform package that could add taxes on some Utah services as a way to lower the overall sales tax rate could be made public today. State Representative Tim Quinn said yesterday that a working draft of the tax reform bill he's sponsoring should be presented to the House Republican caucus and may then be released publicly.
