Polygamist leader Warren Jeffs ordered to give deposition
A judge in St. George has ordered polygamist leader Warren Jeffs to give a deposition in an ongoing sexual abuse lawsuit against him.
The imprisoned leader of the Fundamentalist LDS Church is being sued by a woman who claims she was repeatedly abused by Jeffs and other church members.
The church's real-estate holding arm, the United Effort Plan Trust, raised concerns that Jeffs could not testify, citing rumors that he had a mental breakdown in prison.
However, the woman's attorney questioned if they had any proof of Jeffs' mental state deteriorating.
