Shooting in Cedar City leaves one dead

Cedar City Police continue to investigate a fatal shooting. 

At just after ten-thirty Sunday night, Cedar City police were dispatched to the area of 100 West and Sunset Drive on a call of “shots fired.”

Officers found 47-year-old Jeremey Hunter, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. 

Officers located the suspect, 26-year-old Chaz Bennett a few blocks away and observed him to be in possession of two rifles.

Bennett again fled on foot for a short distance before he shot himself. 

He was transported to the hospital by ambulance and later flown to another hospital by Life Flight with life threatening injuries.
