Smartphones may soon have a way to tell if you have COVID-19.

A computer engineering professor at the University of Utah is trying to modify a sensor he created to test for the Zika virus last year.

The sensor would require just a single drop of saliva to test for COVID-19 and would display the results on the person's phone.

The results can also be uploaded to a central database, allowing health officials to track the spread of the virus in real-time.

Clinical trials could begin within the next two months.
