The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control says its website was nearly overwhelmed when thousands of people rushed to register for a drawing for a rare bottle of bourbon.

The DABC will be drawing names to give liquor lovers a chance to buy a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle next week, and that announcement drove a lot of traffic to the DABC website on Tuesday.

By yesterday, registration for the agency's High Demand Rare Liquor drawing had gone from 600 to over 55-hundred.

A spokesman said the DABC's servers were slowed by the rush but they didn't crash.
