The U.S. Attorney for Utah wants to know where a man killed during a police chase got the rifle he used to fire at law enforcement.

U.S. Attorney John Huber said yesterday that federal investigators plan to look into how Harold Robinson gained possession of the rifle he used during the Monday chase in Salt Lake City.

Robinson had been convicted on federal weapons charges in 2002, then served 18 months in prison for a violation of his supervised released in 2003.

Robinson had sued the government in 2016 seeking to have his gun ownership rights restored, but that case was rejected earlier this year by the Tenth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Huber did not rule out charging other people if they helped Robinson by giving him the gun.

Huber says his office fought Robinson's court case seeking restoration of his gun ownership rights because of his history of violence.
