The U.S.Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals is refusing to hear an appeal by one of Utah's most notorious killers.

Assistant Utah Solicitor General Andrew Petersen says the decision by the Denver appeals court has his office ready to move forward in the case of Ron Lafferty.

The judges determined that Lafferty did not meet the grounds needed for an appeal, determining the state had properly accounted for what were perceived to be procedural inconsistencies.

Lafferty and his brother, Dan, were convicted of slitting the throats of their sister-in-law and her infant daughter in 1984.

Lafferty has requested execution by firing squad.

Petersen says Laffety still has a few legal options he can pursue to try to stop his execution.
