Utah unemployment filings on the rise

Officials confirm that new unemployment filings rose by over one-thousand-percent.

The Utah Department of Workforce Services says over a third of the new filings are from workers who identified as part of food preparation and service industry.

Washington County and Weber County came in fourth in the state for new unemployment filings while Salt Lake City saw the biggest increase with 47-percent.

DWS spokesperson Christina Davis says they added a daily virtual workshop to assist the new applicants.
