Cedar City officials concerned with loss of revenue
Cedar City officials are worried as events that generated great revenue such as the Shakespeare Festival and the Summer Games were canceled due to COVID-19.
Executive Director of the Cedar City-Brian Head Tourism Bureau, Maria Twitchell, says it's going to be a rough summer as those two events reeled in money for the city.
In 2018, travelers passing through Cedar City spent more than 176-million dollars and the numbers for 2019 have not been released yet, but are expected to be similar.
Twitchell expects about a 45-percent drop in revenue for 2020 as she and the tourism office are looking into solutions such as employee furloughs, spending cuts on advertising and grants.
