The number of Utahns filing for unemployment has dropped off for the eighth straight week. 

New numbers from the Department of Workforce Services shows nearly five-thousand people filed new jobless claims last week. 

In all, more than 193-thousand Utahns have reported layoffs, furloughs or pay cuts since the coronavirus began in mid-March. 

About 16-thousand Utahns have dropped their unemployment claims since some stay-at home restrictions have eased.
