Washington County Mourns the Death of County Commissioner Dean Cox
Washington County continues to mourn the death of County Commissioner Dean Cox. He announced his resignation in June, which was supposed to go into effect at the end of this month, due to health and personal reasons. He passed away on Wednesday after a battle with cancer. Cox served Washington County for nearly 30 years and was first elected to be the County Commissioner in 2016 and was then re-elected in 2020. St. George Mayor Michele Randall made a statement on the death of Washington County Commissioner Dean Cox saying, “Commissioner Dean Cox was a warm, wonderful person who served Washington County with his whole heart. He was a man of integrity, who had a deep love for the history and heritage of this area and was committed to helping us meet the challenges of the future. My heart goes out to Dean’s family, especially his wife LaRene.”
County commissioners Gil Almquist and Victor Iverson were on the Andy Griffin show yesterday. Iverson talks about when Dean Cox told them he was sick and the conversation they had with him.
