A teacher at a West Jordan elementary school denies charges that she kidnapped an autistic child from her school.

Amy Martz says she was trying to help the first-grade student who was crying outside Fox Hollow Elementary on September 5th.

Martz says she let the student take her hand and guide her off-campus, thinking she was walking her home.

But Martz soon realized that the student didn't know where she was going and they returned to the school.

Martz is charged with felony kidnapping and faces a minimum sentence of 15 years to life if convicted.

Martz said she never envisioned the kind of trouble she would be in after trying to help the student.
