State officials say they've been told by Facebook that there was a foreign effort to interfere in Utah elections last year.

Utah Elections Director Justin Lee says Facebook found a bot farm in Bangladesh that sought to spread misinformation about the election in order to disrupt it.

Lee says the state is facing increasing attacks on its election systems from outside the country.

Facebook said the financial spamming effort was targeting 75 sites around the U.S. but was shut down shortly after it was detected. Lee says the digital arm of the state's election system is under daily attack.
