Federal authorities file legal complaint against Utah
Federal authorities have filed a legal complaint against the State of Utah, and some of the state's former top public safety officials.
Prosecutors accuse the state of bilking the federal government out of millions-of-dollars in grants between 2009 and 2013. According to court documents, state officials improperly spent the grant money they received, using it to replace state funding rather than supplement it, going against the requirements needed to obtain those grants.
The Utah officials accused of misusing the grants worked in the Utah Attorney General's Office, the Department of Public Safety, the Administrative Office of the Courts and the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice.
