The Utah Department of Health has received approval to implement the full expansion of Medicaid in the state.

Stacy Stanford of the Utah Health Policy Project says there are still questions that need to be answered but that supporters of the original ballot measure seeking to expand Medicaid should be pleased.

About 120-thousand people in Utah will be able to get healthcare coverage starting on January 1st, with the federal government taking on 90-percent of those costs.

The expansion covers adults and families whose annual income is 138-percent of the federal poverty level or below.

Nate Checketts of the Utah Department of Health says low-income Utahns should can start checking their eligibility now.
