A hiker who became lost in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Independence Day is sunburned but okay following her rescue.

Winnie Rohde was emotional Friday after being told her daughter-in-law Dawn was okay.

Dawn Rohde was rescued by helicopter after spending Thursday night by the side of a river she could not cross.

Rohde said that she was exploring the Maybird Trail when she became disoriented and lost Thursday, and her phone battery died when police called trying to locate her.

She wrapped herself in a blanket and stayed put overnight, finally flagging down two hikers who then went to get help.
