Flash flooding and mudslides are being blamed for the closure of part of Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Spokesman Ken Hansen with the Unified Police Department says rocks and mud fell in the canyon around 8:30 last night.

Up to four feet of debris covered the roadway in an area just west of Snowbird.

Cars were trapped between the mudslides on the road, though there were no initial reports of injury.

The Unified Fire Department said last night that a plow was being sent to clear the road.

Hansen said drivers may have seen the mudslides coming and been able to take some action.
