State and local officials are already trying to figure out the best way to distribute a COVID-19 vaccine once one is approved.

The federal government will decide on how many vaccines each state gets and the state health department will distribute them.

Officials say they don't know who will get the vaccines first, but they can say for now that healthcare workers and long-term care facilities are at the top when it comes to who gets the first batch.

A final plan can't be determined until a vaccine is approved by the FDA, but that day may come soon as the U.S. has about four serious vaccine prospects.
