Where were you on August 11, 1999? If you were living in the state of Utah, you can probably remember this day like it was yesterday! It was a normal Wednesday afternoon in downtown Salt Lake City. Suddenly, a storm in the sky was rapidly building. At noon, nobody had any clue of a storm coming, and just before 1:00 pm, the deadly tornado touched down in Salt Lake. The twister lasted around 10 minutes, and caused the most damage near the Delta Center on 300 West and South Temple.

THE PATH OF THE TORNADO:

The tornado started on the west side of I-15, crossing the freeway, hitting the Delta Center, hit an international outdoor retailer convention, headed toward the Salt Lake City Temple. Shockingly, the Temple was missed, and the tornado made it's way north toward the Capitol building, and kept it's destruction going toward the Avenues.

THE DAMAGE:

In 10 minutes, this tornado caused over $170,000,000 in damage, tore the roofs off homes, uprooted between 300-500 trees, injured over 80 people, and killed one man, Allen Crandy. Crandy was a supervisor at the outdoor convention when the tornado ripped through.
