Are you looking at the possibility of getting yourself a dog? Maybe you've lost someone close to you and would appreciate the love and loyalty a dog can offer. These are Utah's 10 MOST POPULAR dog breeds. There's also a little rundown about each dog's temperament to see if it's the correct dog for you!

1. Goldendoodle:

The Goldendoogle. The trendiest of ALL Utah dogs. I, myself, have a Goldendoodle. He's incredibly sweet, smart, friendly, and fun. Even though it's the TRENDIEST dog in Utah, I still suggest to everybody that a Golden Doodle is the way to go. They're a fantastic choice for families.

2. Golden retriever:

The GOLDEN of the GOLDENdoodle. They're generally pretty sweet dogs, but the shedding is too much for me! They're America's dog though. Comet from Full House, Air Bud, and Shadow from Homeward Bound. Americans LOVE the Golden Retriever.

3. Poodle:

Now, the POODLE. The DOODLE of the GoldenDOODLE. They're hypoallergenic, come in all different types of sizes, but they're a bit feminine. If you're a big tough guy, you're probably not finding yourself one of those big show Poodles! They're not good kennel dogs, however. They prefer to spend time with people.

4. French Bulldog:

A French Bulldog has gotten increasingly more trendy over the past few years. They're cute little dogs, and not as GIANT as the English Bulldog. However, a French Bulldog is EXPENSIVE, baby! They're playful and affectionate and pretty good with young children.

5. Yorkie:

The Yorkie, the tiniest little dog on this list. If you need a tiny little dog that's easy to handle in a car or house, the Yorkie is a cute little dog. However, they can be pretty yappy and barky, so be prepared for that. They're hypoallergenic, but not great in a home with small children because of their small stature.

6. Corgi:

The Corgi was much higher on this list a few years ago, but they're now trending downward in Utah. A few years ago, you could throw a rock and you'd probably hit a Corgi. It felt like EVERYONE had one. In the next few years, I expect them to drop out of the top 10.

7. Labrador Retriever:

The Lab. Chocolate, Silver, Yellow, Black. There's so many different types. These are INCREDIBLY smart dogs, and for the most part, they're shorthaired. They love water, have lots of high energy, and their even tempers are pretty good with kids!

8. Dachshund:

The Wienerdog. Everyone loves a wienerdog every time they see it. There's shorthaired and longhaired Dachshunds. They have a high tendency to bark and howl, and also a high prey drive. But they're loyal dogs and good watchdogs.

9. Chihuahua:

Chihuahuas are confident and compact. They're ideal city pets, and need to be taken care of in colder weather. The Chihuahua can be a nice family dog treated respectfully, but they're not especially great with small kids. They have a tendency to snap at strangers or children who are threatening to their small size.

10. Schnauzer:

A Schnauzer is a great watchdog and great family dogs. They generally get along well with other dogs and kids, but they have TIRELESS energy! They can adapt to an apartment, but would also be great somewhere with lots of land to run!
