Do you have drive to get ahead? Do you want to make something of yourself? If you live in Utah might be in the right place, but if you want to be number one, you might want jump over the border to Colorado.

Introducing the Ambition Index: Evaluating Drive Across States

Grand Canyon University wanted to find the most ambitious state and they came up with what they call the Ambition Index. They looked at 11 different statistics that would indicate ambition.

These include things like business applications, how many people in the population have degrees, even the number of patents applied for. They crunched the numbers and stacked up the states according to their score.

Rising Stars Vermont, D.C., and New Hampshire: Here's Where Utah Stands

At the number one spots was Colorado. They showed a high level of residents with a four year degree or higher, coming in at number three. They also did well with business applications landing at 5, and at 9 for patents.

Next in line were Vermont, District of Columbia, and New Hampshire. Standing alone at number 5 was Utah. That's right, Utah is 5th in the nation when it comes to ambition. The beehive state stood 2nd overall for the growth of those seeking secondary degrees.

Utah also did well for growth in employment an business applications. It is pretty good to be on the top end of ambitious states. However, a truly ambitious lot would never let 4 states stay above them.
