Hootie and the Blowfish frontman turned country artist, Darius Rucker has had some recent legal troubles. He was pulled over and police found some purple pills that he said were given to him by his girlfriend. It took a year for the authorities to identify them as Psilocin which is a hallucinogenic.

Darius is cooperating with police and they are working it all out, but it raises a question. In Utah would he have been able to have these pills without legal trouble?

So what gives? Well, in Utah it all has to do with that little piece of paper called a prescription. If you are under a doctor's care you can take the medication as long as you follow the appropriate activities while taking it. You know the activities, they are often listed in fast forward at the end of a medication ad.

Don’t think that in Utah the doctor core can write a prescription for anything, there are laws that control what medical professionals can prescribe, but it is more inclusive than many of us realize, just talk to my aging neighbor.

So had Darius been a resident of Utah, and had he carried a prescription for his purple pills he would have been just fine, as long as he was not driving, using heavy equipment, running with scissors, jumping rope on a public playground, emailing old friends, watching movies featuring suicide, thinking of watching movies featuring suicide, printing anything controversial, reading anything he printed in a controversial manner...
